Everybody knows about Pompeii but have you even heard of Herculaneum? It was a small town that was also destroyed by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD.

If your short on time and can’t make it to Pompeii or just love all things history like I do then you don’t want to miss this great little site. Just catch the Circumvesuviana train line towards Sorrento and hop off at Ercolano – Scavi. From there its a nice easy stroll down the hill to the coast and your there. If your tight on money and don’t want to shell out the 10 euro entry fee you can get a great view from above as you walk into the site.

That’s definitely something worth seeing :)
I envy you in a way, for being able to check it out, but I’m still appreciative for the great picture and description. How did you find out about this place anyway ?

Fortunately for Herculaneum it was situated at the furthest point of Vesuvius’s pyroncalstic blast so they managed to evacuate most of the population. Thanks for the instructions about how to get there.

Hey Steve. Yes it managed to survive better than Pompeii and no problem about the directions. I walked out of the station and had no map expecting there to be signs. Lucky I walked in the right direction.
